Located in the heart of the city, Jaisalmer Fort is a magnificent sight to behold. Also known as the "Golden Fort," it was built in the 12th century by the Rajput ruler Jaisal and is one of the few living forts in the world. Inside the fort walls, you'll find a bustling marketplace, ancient temples, and intricately carved havelis (traditional Indian mansions). You can also climb to the top of the fort for panoramic views of the city and the Thar Desert.
Patwon ki Haveli is a cluster of five havelis (mansions) that were built in the 19th century by a wealthy Jain merchant. These havelis are known for their beautiful sandstone carvings, intricate balconies, and stunning murals. You can explore the havelis to see the opulent living quarters of the merchant and his family, as well as the various shops and businesses that were once housed here.
Located about 40 km from Jaisalmer, the Sam Sand Dunes are a popular spot for camel safaris and desert camping. Here, you can experience the vast expanse of the Thar Desert and witness stunning sunsets and sunrises over the sand dunes. You can also take part in traditional Rajasthani folk dances and music performances, or try your hand at sandboarding or quad biking.
Bada Bagh is a picturesque garden complex located about 6 km from Jaisalmer. It was built by the Maharajas of Jaisalmer in the 16th century as a memorial to their ancestors. Here, you'll find a series of beautifully carved chhatris (cenotaphs) that are dedicated to the rulers of Jaisalmer. The garden is a great place to relax and unwind, with stunning views of the surrounding desert landscape.
Gadisar Lake is a man-made reservoir that was built in the 14th century to provide water to the city. Today, it is a popular spot for boating and picnicking, with numerous temples and shrines located along its shores. You can take a leisurely boat ride on the lake to see the various ghats (steps) and temples, or simply relax by the water's edge and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
Kuldhara Village is an abandoned village located about 18 km from Jaisalmer. Legend has it that the village was abandoned overnight by its inhabitants due to a curse, and it has remained deserted ever since. Today, the village is a popular spot for ghost hunters and those interested in paranormal activity. You can explore the abandoned houses and temples, and hear stories about the village's mysterious past.
